3b - BSA SMBC

Content reviewed 6/8/17

This page is dedicated to the BSA SMBC - one of the counties most active clubs

Apart from having 2 teams in the Dales league, the club organises an annual Open Triples competition (in memory of Richard Lund)

In 2008, they took over the organisation of the "High Fives" competition from St. Cuthberts

In 2016, they took over the organisation of the "Little Cup" competition from the NYSMBA .

Over recent years the clubs has accumulated a stock of 12 mats.

This fact together with the excellent size of its venue and provision of catering has also enabled it to host 2 of our main County Championships.

Brief competition reports and a ROLL of previous winners appears after the club profile

CLUB PROFILE

(2005) If you leave Malton on the B1257 Helmsley road, you will soon pass through the villages of Broughton, Swinton and Amotherby. It is the initial letters of these three, (and not a well known British motor cycle) that Matt Fenwick used to name the club he formed in March 1996. Although a relatively small club with just 16 members, they fields two teams in the Scarborough league both of which have a very consistent record. The A team has always been good enough to maintain its position in the middle of Division 1 whilst the B team regularly props up the others in Division 3! However all the players in both teams thoroughly enjoy their games and will continue to try and make progress against their fellow league clubs in the coming seasons. Several members also play regularly for the Ryedale region of the Yorkshire (North) League.

Individual accolades go to Matt & Freda Fenwick who played regularly for the County team in the mid 90s whilst the late Richard Lund enjoyed a particularly good season in 2004/05 reaching the Semi-Finals of the County Singles and Quarter-Finals of the County Triples with club colleagues Sue Watson and John Coffey. With Sue he was also runner up in the annual Kirbymisperton Pairs.

Since 1998, the Club has held its own open Triples competition and the funding from this has gradually helped it to build up a stock of 10 mats. With such assets and a popular capacious venue, the Club is able to play host to the annual County Championships. In 2006, they introduced an open Pairs competition whilst in 2008 they took on the job of organising the High Fives from the St. Cuthberts club. They now have 12 available mats.

2017 LITTLE CUP - (Nov 11) Not being held

2017 RICHARD LUND TRIPLES (11/2/17) This year there was an entry of 20 triples from 14 clubs and each team played 4 games of 45 minutes in alternate sessions. Winning every game would produce a maximum of 8 points and in the event only one team achieved this which was Dennis Jarvis, Sue Pittham and Arthur Jackson. Also undefeated were Lyndon Wilson, Pete Cahill and Richard Harrison with 3 wins and a draw who thus came second with 7 points.  3 teams tied on 6 points and these were the triples of Andrew Leng (+7), Anne Ridge (+0) and Jez Williams (-3). Money prizes (donated by Julie Lund) were presented to the top 4 places.

2017 HIGH FIVES (21/1/17) 14 teams of 5 entered (each team = 1 Triple + 1 Pair). 7 mats were used and all contestants had 4 games of 45 minutes. The Triples and Pairs played in alternate sessions so each team could watch and cheer on their "other half" whilst sitting out. Teams winning all 8 games could gain 16 points but just as in the previous 5 years, no team actually achieved this. The runners up with 12 points (+43) were Tim & Dennis Jarvis, Athur Jackson, Harry Welch and Gill Fletcher whilst the winners with 13 points (+49) were Thelma Price, Simon Holtby. Paul Whitcombe, Audrey Craven and Joan Ramsden.  Those finishing in the top 4 all received monetary prizes presented by the competition sponsor, Martin Prest whilst the winner received the Peter Farrow Rose Bowl.

2016 RICHARD LUND Triples (13/2/16) This year 22 entrants took part with everyone having 4 games and chasing the 8 points available. At the end of the day only two teams had won all their games and after taking into account their overall shot difference the winners were Joanne Senior and Mick & Anne Ridge from Crossgates with runners up Alan Banthorpe from Hambleton who had teamed up with Gill Fletcher and Harry Welch from St. Cuthberts. The organiser were also very pleased to see a team of junior bowlers from North Duffield taking part - Daniel Agar (12), Ben Finch (15) and Lauren Finch (16) and at the end of the day showed their appreciation by refunding them their entry fees.

2016 HIGH FIVES (23/1/16) 16 teams of 5 entered (each team = 1 Triple + 1 Pair). 8 mats were used so all contestants had 4 games of 45 minutes. The Triples and Pairs played in alternate sessions so each team could watch and cheer on their "other half" whilst sitting out. Teams winning all 8 games could gain 16 points but just as in the previous 4 years, no team actually achieved this. However 3 teams managed to tie with 14 points each so the final places were determined by overall shot difference which resulted in the Rose Bowl (and 60) going to James Clark, Jake Potter and 3 three Newsomes (+72) who just pipped the winners of 2014 and 2015 Janet Clark, Geoff & Ann Whitehead and Roger & Diane Ellis (+70) who were awarded 50. A small award of 30 and 15 went the the 3rd and 4th placed teams.

2015 RICHARD LUND TRIPLES - (21/2/15) Once again there was a good entry of 26 teams and with 7 mats in use, all were able to enjoy 4 games timed at 45 minutes. With no Final to be played it was up to all to win as many games as possible hopefully clocking up a sizeable shot difference in the process. Competition, as now seems to be the norm in open competitions, was tough and by the end of play only 2 teams had won all their games to end on 8 points. With a shot difference of +30 the winners were declared to be Edwin Smith, Jan Moorcroft and Elaine Thornburn from Scarborough who were 6 shots clear of  Andrew Leng, Rob Walker and Brenda Mellor from Yedingham/Humberside.

Richards wife Julie presented the Trophy to Edwin and Co. whilst the next 3 places received small cash prizes.

2015 HIGH FIVES - (24/1/15) - 16 teams of 5 entered (each team = 1 Triple + 1 Pair). 8 mats were used so all contestants had 4 games of 45 minutes. The Triples and Pairs played in alternate sessions so each team could watch and cheer on their "other half" whilst sitting out. Teams winning all 8 games could gain 16 points but just as in the previous 3 years, no team actually achieved this. There were many hard fought and close games with 22 of the 64 matches played either drawn or won/lost by just 1 or 2 shots. However, by losing only 1 of their games (14 points), the Rose Bowl and 60 went to Janet Clark, Geoff & Anne Whitehead and Roger & Diane Ellis for the second consecutive year. The runners up with 12 points were Ben Render, Jane Rudd, Emma Burrows Peter Watson and Joyce Perry who "earnt" 50 whilst cash prizes of 40 and 30 also went to Roger Green, David Hunton, Derrick Johnson, Francis Boatman and David Brown in 3rd and Arthur Jackson, Sue Sleightholme, Dennis Jarvis, Gill Fletcher and Harry Welch in 4th.

2014 RICHARD LUND TRIPLES - (15/2/14) In memory of Richard Lund - a message from Richards wife Julie

"I would like to thank everyone who played bowls on Saturday in memory of Richard. It was a very special day and I know he would have been very proud. I would also like to give enormous thanks to all the BSA bowlers for their help on the day and for how they have welcomed and supported me over this past year.  With best wishes  Julie"

After 13 years there was a pause last year when there was no competition. This year the Swinton club re-launched their annual Triples in memory of Richard Lund their popular and much loved member who passed away at this time in 2013.  It was good to see a sizeable turnout of 26 teams, many of whom had been long time bowling colleagues or competitors of Richard.

With 7 mats in use, all teams were able to enjoy 4 games timed at 45 minutes and with no Final to be played it was up to all to win as many games as possible hopefully clocking up a sizeable shot difference in the process. Competition, as now seems to be the norm in open competitions, was tough and by the end of play only 4 teams remained undefeated. However the winners were declared to be Jayne Rudd, Joanne Senior and Mike Carter from Crossgates who just pipped last years winners Rose Haynes, Simon Holtby and Paul Williamson by 5 shots.

Richards wife Julie presented a new Trophy to Jayne and Co. whilst the top 4 place also received a small cash prize as well. The final table is below but do not forget to see the PhotoGallery and how these results have altered the OOM.

2014 High Fives - (1/2/14) Once again, 16 teams entered with each team composed of 5 players - 1 Triple + 1 Pair. With 8 mats in use all contestants had 4 games of 40 minutes. As usual, the Triples and Pairs played in alternate sessions so each team could watch and cheer on their "other half" whilst sitting out. Teams winningall 8 games could gain 16 points but just as in the previous 2 years, no team actually achieved this although two teams came close only losing one of their 8 games . This years winners of the Rose Bowl by just 7 shots were the North Duffield team of Janet Clark, Roger & Diane Ellis and Anne & Geoff Whitehead whilst the runners-up were the Great Ouseburn team (winners for the last 2 years) of Paul Williamson, Roger Green Simon & Megan Holtby and Les Lambert. Once again money prizes were presented to the top 4 places thanks to sponsor Martin Prest - a former BSA member. The table showing the final positions is below. (See PhotoGallery and latest OOM)

2013 High Fives - (2/2/13) The day began with a minutes silence in memory of Richard Lund who had recently passed away after a gallant struggle against cancer.

16 teams of 5 (1 Triple + 1 Pair) took part and with 8 mats in use all contestants had 4 games of 45 minutes. As usual, the Triples and Pairs played in alternate sessions so each team could watch and cheer on their "other half" whilst sitting out. Teams winning all 8 games could gain 16 points but in the event, no team actually achieved this although two teams came close and only lost a single game. The Flixton team (Barry Crossland, Graham Sherburn, Bob Davies and David & Sheila Loraine) were undefeated coming to the last session (Pairs) when they had to play the Great Ouseburn team (Rose Haynes, Simon & Megan Holtby, Roger Green and Paul Williamson)  who had lost just one of their earlier games. The latter therefore had to win and although they did not know it they also had to win by 3 shots to win the day and retain the Trophy they won last year.  On the last end the score was 10-10 and GO were lying 3 for the match but Flixton decided to try and ditch the jack with their final wood to prevent defeat. However, although the shot connected well it was a touch too heavy causing the jack to leave the mat conceding 3 shots and leaving Great Ouseburn the winners of the "Peter Farrow" trophy by just a single shot. A close and exciting finish to another well organised day.  Money prizes were presented to the top 4 places thanks to sponsor Martin Prest - a former BSA member (who now prefers to play golf!). The table showing the final positions is below.

2012 HIGH FIVES - (11/2/12) Once again 18 teams of five (1 Triple + 1 Pair) took part and with 9 mats in use all contestants had 4 games (Triples 40 minutes and Pairs 35 minutes). As usual, the Triples and Pairs played in alternate sessions so each team could watch and cheer on their "other half" whilst sitting out. Teams winning all 8 games would gain 16 points but in the event, no-one actually achieved this. However, 2 teams finished the day with only a single defeat and 14 points. With a shot difference of +43 the runners up  were John Pennock, David Brown, Derek Johnstone, Sally Roocroft and Keith Hughes from Easingwold. With a slightly better difference of +48 the winners (last years runners up) were , Rose Haynes, Simon Holtby, Paul Williamson, Roger Green and Megan Holtby (the youngest competitor taking part) from Great Ouseburn. In 3rd place, with 12 points was Graham Sherburn, Barry Crossland, Bob Davies and David & Sheila Loraine.  The top 4 places all received monetary prizes whilst the winners also received the 'Peter Farrow' Trophy.

2012 TRIPLES - (14/1/12) This year 24 triples took part and all teams played in 4 alternate 45 minute sessions over 6 mats. There were as usual no playoffs, so to remain undefeated over all games was really the objective of those taking part. Three teams achieved this but Rose Haynes, Paul Williamson and Simon Holtby from Great Ouseburn were the only team to win all 4 (with a shot difference of +50) and so took home the cash first prize. Two teams tied in second place with 3 wins and a draw, the latter having been in the game in which they had played each other. Based on shot difference it was Arthur Jackson, Harry Welch and KenThompson (+20) who took the second prize with Matthew Jackson, Jayne Rudd and Ken Calvert in third place (+16).  (See PhotoGallery and latest OOM table)

2011 HIGH FIVES - (12/2/11) 18 teams (1 Triple + 1 Pair) took part his year and with 9 mats in use all contestants had 4 games (Triples 40 minutes and Pairs 35 minutes). As usual, the Triples and Pairs played in alternate sessions so each team could watch and cheer on their "other half" whilst sitting out, so was fully involved throughout the day. An undefeated team could pick up a maximum of 16 points but the best of the bunch today, with 14 points was Bronagh Malone, Trevor Hanlon, Jayne Rudd, Jill Newsome and Peter Watson who took the very fine Peter Farrow (glass) Trophy . Two teams ended on 13 points and based on shot difference it was Dennis Bridle, Irene Hill, Joe Strickland, Edwin Harrison and Jean Matthews who ended in 3rd place with +21 shots whilst Rose Haynes, Simon Holtby, Derek Walker, Roger Green and Paul Williamson were runners up with +34 shots. (The top 3 teams also had cash prizes). (See PhotoGallery and latest OOM table)

2011 TRIPLES - (15/1/11) This year 26 triples took part (from 16 different clubs) and all teams played in 4 alternate 35 minute sessions over 7 mats. As usual in these "round robin" only competitions (no playoffs or Final) it is essential to get a good start as the eventual winner if more than likely going to be a team that can remain undefeated. With one session left to play there were 7 teams in this fortunate position but it was Ken Brailey, Hilary Heaton and Sheila Haffey from Knaresborough who were the only ones to win their 4th game and so claim the 27 first prize. Fours teams tied in second place with 3 wins and a draw, but based on shot difference it was Richard Lund, Sue Sleightholme and Richard Good (+32) who took the 21 second prize with Rose Haynes, Roger Green and Paul Williamson taking 15 for third place (+18). The triples of Mick Ridge and David Loraine  both just missed out on the money prizes with +17 and +13 shots respectively.

2010 HIGH FIVES - (13/2/10) This year there were 20 teams (of 1 Triple and 1 Pair) entered and using 10 mats everyone played in alternate sessions (Triples followed by Pairs). All games were timed with Triples having 45 minutes and Pairs 35 minutes giving everyone 4 games in total giving a maximum possible of 16 points. In 4th place were Pat Lawry, Ron Czernik. Geoff Kelleher, Joyce Bell and George McDowell on 13 points +54; 3rd place went to last years winners David & Jo Newsome, Richard Lochman, Jayne Rudd and Ben Render on 14 points +58 whilst the runners up (for the second year running) were Barry Crossland, Graham Sherburn, David & Sheila Lorraine and Ian Witham. The only team on maximum points (16 +63) was that of Trevor Collier, Heather & John Myers, Mary Stonehouse and Simon Allan who become this years winners of the Pete Farrow Rosebowl (see PhotoGallery).

(Note - David & Sheila Loraine have been runners up in 4 of the last 5 years! See history at bottom of page)

2010 TRIPLES - (16/1/10) Luckily the cold and icy weather that had caused the cancellation of the County Singles & Triples at Swinton last weekend gave way to a thaw just in time for this competition to proceed unhindered.  Once again there were 30 triples and by using 8 mats all entrants had a good day playing 4 games - each timed at 40 minutes. At the end of the day only 3 teams were undefeated so the final places were determined according to shot difference. In 3rd (+24) were David & Joseph Newsome and Richard Lochman (winners in 2008) whilst the runners up (+37) were Alan Banthorpe, Danny Brown and Derek Williams (Alan & Danny were winners in 2002 & 2005). However the winners with +45 were Brian Higgs, Brian Flinton and Colin Burdon (the two Brians last won in 2001). There was 72 paid out in prize money. (See PhotoGallery)

2009 PAIRS - (15/2/09) A reduced entry of 22 Pairs took part and with 6 mats in use, each had fours games - each timed at 40 minutes. At the end of the day there were only 3 undefeated teams. In 3rd place was Eric Richardson/David Daddy (7 points +15); in 2nd was Alan Barningham/Dennis Thornburn (8 points +31) an the winners were Geoff Kelleher/Peter Owston (8 points +49). (Note that due to reducing support and rising costs over the last few years, the BSA club have stated their intention NOT to hold this competition in 2009/10).

2009 HIGH FIVES - (14/2/09) Once again there was an entry of 22 teams of 5 (from 17 different clubs) and 11 mats were used to allow everyone to play in alternate sessions. All teams played as one Triple and one Pair with everyone having three timed games (Pairs 40 mins. and Triples 45 mins.) - a repeat of last years format. Once all games had been completed, the only undefeated teams (with 12 points) were that of David Newsome and  David Loraine. Trevor Colliers team with 10 points were third and Alan Banthorpe with 9 points were 4th. All these four teams were then given an extra game to see if these positions could be improved upon. In these "playoffs", Alan, with Brian Foster, Danny Brown, Derek Williams and Barry Simmonite played Trevor with John & Heather Myers, Mary Stonehouse and Hilda Thomas and shared the points - 2 a piece. In the other match David Newsome with Joseph Newsome. Richard Lochman, Ben Render and Jayne Rudd convincingly beat David Loraine, playing with Linda and Graham Sherburn, Sheila Loraine and Ian Witham taking all 4 points. The final placings therefore remained unaltered.

David Newsome's five win the very handsome Peter Jarrow Trophy (and keepsake clocks) for the second year running whilst David & Sheila Loraine are runners up for the third time in 4 years. (See PhotoGallery)

2009 TRIPLES - (17/1/09) Although the entry was down on last year, the event still attracted 30 triples and by using 8 mats all entrants had a good day playing 4 games - each timed at 40 minutes. At the end of the day the top 3 teams, all of whom were unbeaten, were as follows. In 3rd place with 3 wins and a draw and +36 shots were Len & Pam Bradley and Hilda Thomas from Helmsley. The runners up with 4 wins and a shot difference of +19, were Joyce Bell, Eric Clements and Ron Copland from Kirkbymoorside. However the winners, also from Kirkbymoorside with 4 wins and a shot difference of +34 were Pat Lawry, Ron Czernik and Geoff Kelleher.

2008 PAIRS - (10/2/08) A slightly reduced entry of 28 meant that only 7 mats were required to give everyone 4 games timed at 35 minutes over 8 sessions. Several pairs managed to remain undefeated over the day and so final places were decided on shot difference. The top 3 places then worked out as Andrew & Mary Leng (Yedingham) in 3rd with +18; Barry & Joan Crossland (Flixton) in 2nd (for the second successive year)  with +24, whilst the winners were Trevor & Edith Collier (Kirbymisperton) with +32.

2008 HIGH FIVES -(9/2/08) For the 3rd year, the competition involved 22 teams (of 5), although at the last minute it was found that one of these could not make it. This unfortunately meant that the BSA home team had to drop out in order to balance up the numbers and allow the competition to go ahead with no adverse affects on any of the other teams.  The same format as last year was used with both the Pairs (40 minutes) and the Triples (45 minutes) having 3 games each in alternate session on 11 mats. A maximum of 12 points was therefore possible per team.

Once everyone had completed their games, only two teams remained undefeated. These were David & Joseph Newsome, Ben Render, Jayne Rudd and Richard Lochman (12 points) and Derek & Pat Beardsley, Bryan & Pat Jones and Roger Green (11 points). These two teams were joined in the final playoff by the next best two teams. These were Barry & Joan Crossland, Sheila & David Loraine and Geoff Kelleher (10 points) and Edwin Smith, Dorothy Knaggs, Elaine & Dennis Thorburn and Brian Prentiss who ended, along with 5 others on 8 points but had the better shot difference.

The organisers had decided that the final places this year were to be decided on "shot difference" as opposed to "total shots" as used last year.  This created a small problem when the results of the two final matches showed that the teams of David Newsome and Derek Beardsley had tied for 1st place with +19 shots and that the teams of Barry Crossland and Edwin Smith were therefore in joint 3rd with -19 shots. To separate everyone out, the total shots scored were then used and this showed David's team to have won (32 shots) with Derek's team 2nd (31 shots), Edwin's team 3rd (13 shots) and Barry's team 4th (12 shots). These top four all received money prizes whilst the winners were also presented with the new attractive cut-glass rose-bowl trophy and a cut glass whisky glass keepsake each. The trophy had been donated by a local businessman and will be known as the "Peter Farrow Trophy". Umpire for the day was Clive Scholefield who was kept busy sorting out many a close measure. 2008 TRIPLES (12/1/08) Once again Swinton attracted 36 entrants into their popular open Triples event and last years format was repeated exactly. By using 9 mats, the club was able to give all players 4 timed games of 35 minutes in alternate sessions. At the end of the day the top 3 teams, all of whom were unbeaten were as follows. In 3rd with +18 shots were David & Sheila Loraine & Linda Sherburn from Flixton. The runners up, also from Flixton, with a shot difference of +22, were Barry & Joan Crossland and Graham Sherburn. However the winners, with a huge shot difference of +69 were David & Joseph Newsome (N. Duffield) and Richard Lochman (E. Cottingwith).

2007 PAIRS - (11/2/07) The second running of this competition attracted 32 pairs each of which had 4 games of 35 minutes during the day (8 mats in use). By the time the last session had finished, only 4 Pairs remained undefeated and the final positions were therefore determined on the basis of shot difference. In 3rd were last years runners up, David & Sheila Loraine (Flixton) on +28 whilst in 2nd were Barry & Joan Crossland (Flixton) on +35 but the winners by 2 shots were Brian Flinton & Brian Higgs from Marton with +37.

2007 TRIPLES - (13/1/07) A slightly increased entry this year of 36 gave rise to another successful competition in which everyone had four games with each timed at 35 minutes. Of course everyone knew that to win it would probably be necessary not only to gain the maximum 8 points available but also to clock up a reasonable shot difference. After the day had run its course, there were in fact only three unbeaten triples. John & Heather Myers and Trevor Collier with 3 wins and a draw ended in 3rd place. David & Sheila Loraine and Linda Sherburn won all games and with a shot difference of +10 took the runners up slot. However it was Ken & Jean Calvert, playing this year with Simon Holtby, also with 4 wins but a higher shot difference of +44 who won the day. This was the second consecutive win for Ken & Jean (who last year played with the late Les Stelling).

2006 PAIRS - (12/2/06) The replacement of the Ampleforth Pairs (2 days) with the St. Cuthberts High Fives (1 day) this year,  meant the Sunday became available for use by other events and the BSA club decided to take advantage of this to introduce a new open Pairs competition. For this first time they attracted 30 pairs who were all given four games of 40 minutes using 8 mats. The result was decided simply by those scoring most points over the day and the standard of competition was high meaning that only 3 teams were able to remain undefeated. The winners, on shot difference were John & Heather Myers (Kirbymisperton) with David & Sheila Loraine (Barn) as runners up. Trevor & Edith Collier who had only dropped 1 point due a a draw in one of their 4 games, came third.

2006 TRIPLES - (14/1/06) The entry this year was 34 - somewhat down on last years record entry but never the less a good turnout. Everyone had 4 timed 40 minute games playing in alternate sessions on 9 mats and starting at 0930. With the final results to be determined purely on the results of these games (no knockout stage or Final game), everyone knew that it would probably be necessary to remain undefeated during the day to have a chance of winning  - to lose a single game was probably tantamount to losing any chance of coming top. So competition was keen right from the first session. With one session to go only three triples were undefeated whilst in the final session both Richard Clark and Neville Dawson could have made this five - but eventually lost their final games. So as expected it came down to shot difference to separate the three undefeated trios. In 3rd (+22) was Rose Haynes, Roger Green and Gail Daffern (Great Ouseburn); in 2nd (+36) was Arthur Jackson, Len Lofthouse and Dennis Mather (St. Cuthberts/Easingwold) whilst this years winners (+42) were Ken Calvert, Les Stelling and Jean Calvert (Boroughbridge/Yoredale). (See PhotoGallery)

2005 TRIPLES - This year saw a record entry of 44 triples which as far as is known is the largest triples competition ever held in the county. To accommodate these, the BSA club utilised 11 mats (one on loan from Coxwold) and gave every entrant 4 games of 40 minutes duration. The result was determined simply on the results of these 4 games and by the end of the day there were 7 teams who had successfully won all their games thus ending on 8 points. The final placings were therefore determined on shot difference. In 3rd place on +33 came Bilsdales Arthur Jackson, Len Lofthouse and Gordon Cripps; in 2nd were the Knaresborough trio of Derek & Pat Beardsley with Len Rose on +38 whilst top prize went to the 2002 winners, Alan & Fred  Banthorpe with Danny Brown from Hambleton on +47. This certainly pleases Alan and Danny who had to settle for runners up place in last weeks County Triples Championship at the same venue!

2004 TRIPLES - This year once again saw excellent support for this annual open competition with 40 entries. With 10 mats being used, all players were given four games of 35 minute duration. By the end of the last session, only three teams remained undefeated - winning all four of their games and scoring the maximum of 8 points. Final positions were therefore determined on shot difference. In 3rd place with +25 shots were Dennis Jarvis, Jean Calvert and Ken Calvert. In 2nd place, just ahead of Dennis's trio, with +27 shots were John Myers, Heather Myers and Trevor Collier. However, well ahead with +41 shots were Graham Sherburn, Linda Sherburn and Alan Barningham who now add this scalp to their win in the County Championships two weeks ago.

2003 TRIPLES - In a close result, Barry and Joan Crossland (Flixton) followed up their win in the Scarborough Open Pairs just after Christmas with another success at this years whistle stop at Swinton. Joined by club colleague Gwen Barningham, they score maximum points by winning all of their games during the day and accumulating a shot difference of +61. In second place were Allan/Alice Foxton and Barbara Todd (Pateley Bridge), with Chris/Christine Peel and John Ward coming third. Both these teams also won all their games but had a lesser shot difference.
